Applying for a Relative Visit Visa |
|
This is a
kind of visa for which foreign nationals may apply if they have one or
more of the following relations living in China: parents, spouse’s
parents, grandparents, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, etc. A foreign
national wishing to apply for this visa must enter the country on a
tourist (L) visa and before its expiration apply for a Relative
Visit Visa. This visa’s period of efficacy is 6 months, and
applicants may request either a zero entry or 1 entry visa. This visa
may applied for only twice consecutively.
The following documents are required to apply for a Relative
Visit Visa:

a. |
Those wishing to
visit relatives within mainland China need to provide the Household
Registration (hukou) and identification card of the relative to be
visited |

b. |
Those wishing to
visit relatives in Hong Kong or Macau need to provide their “Permit for
Residents of Hong Kong and Macau to Visit the Mainland” or their “Permit
for Compatriots of Hong Kong and Macau to Return Home” in addition to
proof of residence in Hong Kong or Macau for over 6 months. |

Those wishing to
visit relatives in Taiwan need to provide the “Permit for Residents of
Taiwan to Visit the Mainland” or the “People’s Republic of China Tourism
Permit” of the relative to be visited in addition to proof that that
relative has resided in Taiwan for over 6 months. |

d. |
Those wishing to
visit resident aliens in China must provide the “Residence Permit” or
“Permanent Residence Permit” of the relative to be visited. |
The processing time for a Relative Visit visa is
5 work days.
