All
foreign employees and their accompanying family members (spouse,
parents, and minor children) coming to China must all obtain a Z visa to
enter the country. Within 30 days after arriving in China, foreign
employees and their family members must apply for residence permit.
Investors and legal representatives of enterprises may attain a 2 year
residence permit. Permits for everybody else expire after one year.
Residence permits may be extended via the same process.

Note: All certifications mentioned above
(i.e. marriage certificates, proof of kinship, etc.) issued abroad must
be approved by the Chinese Consulate in their country of issue.
